The reverse of this coin depicts Alexander the Great, who conquered the city of Sagalassus in 333 BC during his campaign through Asia Minor. By featuring the great Macedonian king on their coins, the inhabitants of Sagalassos thus tied their local history to the grand stage of Hellenic world history.
